Millennial generation and internet addiction
Simon Sinek on Millennial and Internet Addiction
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OPaQPWfqjmw
Sinek Talks about two issues affecting the Millennial generation that are relevant to our issue.
Firstly that Millenials are brought up to believe they can do anything they want to if they just work hard enough, they go through school with praise for participation and effort. But when they get out into the work force they aren't prepared for the compeditive and demanding nature of the work place. This leads to low self-asteem, higher rates of depression and life disatisfaction.
This is relevant for students because the constant pressure of uni can often make students feel like they aren't good enough. For many it is their first taste of the 'real world' and the time they start to realise that they may not be able to do anything they want to do in their career. This adjustment can be very stressful.
Secondly Millenials addiction to the internet inparticular their phones is affecting they way they connect with others. Always having their eyes glued to their phones distracts from inspiration found in observing. It also creates a bareer for starting real life relationships as converation opertunities are lost due to the virtual world.
Because of this we feel it is important to encourage creative outlets that remove the student from technology and connect them with other in a physical way.
